Andrews Space Wins Contract for Orbital Space Plane Systems Engineering Services with Northrop Grumman
Seattle, WA, January 20, 2004 - Andrews Space (Andrews) announced today that it has been awarded a contract from Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) to support the company's Orbital Space Plane (OSP) concept development effort. The contract was awarded to team lead Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE: LMT) in October 2003 to conduct vehicle architecture design studies for NASA's Space Launch Initiative. Northrop Grumman, as principle subcontractor, is responsible for major aspects of the Orbital Space Plane development program.
Andrews Space, in concert with NGC's System Engineering & Integration Team and Risk Management Team will jointly investigate the OSP's capability to be integrated with existing Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicles (EELVs). In this capacity, Andrews Space will analyze the physical and functional interfaces between OSP and candidate launch vehicles and identify potential risk areas requiring greater attention. This will enable the LM / NGC / Andrews team to develop an integrated System Engineering and Architecture Definition Program Plan resulting in safe and affordable OSP architecture concepts which address NASA's mission needs and requirements.
